Helping your Child
Be a Better Reader
Dear Parents,
To succeed in school, your child
needs
to be a skillful reader. You can help your child be a good
reader by doing some reading activities at home. Try some of
the activities suggested below:
*MAIL CALL: When you sort the mail,
let your child open and read aloud to you advertisements and
general announcements.
*READ TRAFFIC SIGNS: When you are
traveling by car, have a passenger read aloud the traffic signs
along the way. Discuss the meaning of the signs with your
child. |
What Is Special Education?
Special Education is specially designed instruction, at no cost
to the parent, to meet the unique needs of a child with a
disability. Michigan’s Mandatory Special Education ACT (P.A. 451
of 1976) and the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA)
Amendments of 1997 (P.L. 105-17 of 1997) guarantee all persons
with disabilities (ages 0-25) the right to a free and
appropriate public education (FAPE).
