IN LOOKING TO THE FUTURE OF FRANKFORT-ELBERTA AREA SCHOOLS...

The Board of Education is asking the community to vote at the Tuesday, November 2, 2021, election on a bond proposal for district-wide identified building, site, and technology upgrades and improvements over four years.

I am grateful to be part of a community for well over thirty years that takes great pride in their educational facilities and the education of their children. I truly believe strong schools and strong communities go hand in hand.

A recent assessment of our facilities was used to develop a strategic plan to address the identified needs that have exceeded their expected lifecycles - roofing, windows, buses, school furniture, flooring, refreshing of 1-1 technology, and adding a new ceramics lab/classroom.

The preschool program has grown by leaps and bounds. The 2021-2022 school year will see three full classrooms, which means the elementary building will soon be over capacity by two classrooms. The restructuring for future grade configurations has been under study, and the administrative team and FEAS Board of Education approved this restructuring plan of Preschool-5, Middle School 6-8, High School 9-12. The positive district growth presents a golden opportunity to rethink the structure and educational programming needs for our students.

If the bond proposal is approved by voters, the debt millage rate would remain at 1.52 mills, meaning the millage rate is projected to remain the same as 2021 with no tax rate increase expected for property owners. This bond proposal would raise $13,075,000 with a projected zero tax rate increase.

This is an exciting time for our school district, and I welcome your questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Jeff Tousley

Superintendent
